As some of you might know, we work closely with our local engineering school here in Grand Rapids.
By giving the students projects to work on, they benefit from real world experience that not only helps them, but occasionally
brings products to market that would normally take us years.
This is one of those examples.
Please take a few minutes to answer the questionnaire for these students regarding this years project. A fairing for recumbent trikes.
This does NOT mean we are working on a fairing for our trikes. This is simply a class project we've agreed to help them with.....although you never know
Put your responses in a thread post.
Thank You.

Jeff,
I tried the TT fairing survey and could find no "guest" classification
for submittal.
There was NO question "Do you presently have or previously had a fairing?
I answered "a" to all but #6 which has no meaning to me.
I have one on each of my2 trikes., I commute, I leave them on all the
time, I live in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains but still have
occasional showers
One of my long fairings has a fixed post, the other a swing post. The
swing post if by far the most convenient. With a swing post I think the
sides of the Mueller long fairing could be a bit deeper. As expressed a
couple times in this forum, one can learn how to mount and demount "side
saddle" and swing the legs in and out. Such will ease lifting your body
out of the seat and help prevent stressing the seat from mounting
impacts.
I think the greatest assist of a fairing is for safety. It protects your
pedals and largest chain wheel. It acts as a flexible bumper if you
should happen to hit anything. I am 75 with limited central vision in
only one eye and near sighted. (Full peripheral vision.) My trikes are
my transportation into towns 4,8 & 12 miles away.
The greatest problem I experience is getting toe clearance and keep the
front down enough to see road defects near by. The front stinger also is
a minor problem to keep aligned from minor garage storage bumps.

2. Have you ever considered purchasing a fairing for your bike?
a. Yes
3. What feature do you most dislike on other fairing designs?
I commute up down three hills to/from so wt is my primary issue.
If I loose more on the way up than I gain on the way down/flat then the fairing is not needed.
4. In what conditions would you use your fairing most?
a. All the time
5. What factor would you consider the most when purchasing a fairing for your TerraTrike.
Weight foremost as I have hills in my commute.
Aerodynamics 2nd. Don't care about weather, I live in CA.
6. How much would you be willing to spend on a fairing for your TerraTrike?
d. $450 - 600
